Lake Michigan at Manistee
Lake Michigan, near Manistee · Huron-Manistee National Forests
Four wooded loops right on the Lake Michigan shore, south of Manistee. Hardwood and pine canopy over large, well spaced sites, so you get shade and room. Sandy beach is a short walk down, and the Arrowhead Trail runs through the campground into the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness. Dry camping, no hookups, paved pads, vault toilets with flush toilets on two of the loops. Bring bug spray and don't count on cell signal.

Hanging a hammock?
Hammocks are fine in Michigan state parks. There's no rule against them. The rule is about the tree: use wide, tree-friendly straps, no nails or wire, and don't tear the bark. The state sets no strap or tree-size requirement, so when in doubt, ask the park. We'll point you at sites that likely have trees worth hanging from, but we can't see the trunks, so eyeball it on arrival.
